Hey Badgers!
Barring unforeseen catastrophe*, we will play an exhibition game on Wednesday, May 5 at Riverdale Park against last season's champions, Bain Bantams.
The Toronto Arts League season will begin the following Wednesday, May 12 at the same location with the same teams. All games start at 6:30 pm.
If you are playing with the Badgers this year, please let me know immediately.
Also please go to the TAL Web site at http://tal.redzoneleagues.com/ and create an account if you have not already done so. If you are not Richard Batista, Daniel Copeland, Katy Sexton, or Wayne Smith, then you have not already done so.
If you forgot your password a "forgot password" link is available when you click the "login" link on the main page (upper right corner.)
If you still have problems logging in then send me an email. If you don't have problems logging in, send me an email.
You should also go to the "Forms and Files" section and download the 2010 schedule, 2010 rules, and 2010 Field Permits (you'll also find the scoresheets and lineup cards there if you need them.)
Our park permit fee for the league this year is $1898.98. We get a refund of $661.50 for last season because of the strike, so our net cost this season is $1237.48, which Bob Walton has paid. We owe Bob $206.25, which I will pay. We will also need some softballs, which I will buy. Badger fees this year will again be $25 for the season, payable immediately. I think I have some T-shirts, which are available for $20.
We need a second team contact for the league. Who is willing to be listed as Alternate Captain?
At the Captains' meeting, the following changes were made to the rules:
Ground Rules:
3.29 At Riverdale Park, ground rule lines will be marked where the soccer and Frisbee players usually set out pylons marking their playing area. Batted balls passing over the line in the air will be outs. Batted balls that roll or bounce over the line will be doubles. These rules will be in effect at all times, whether or not there are soccer or Frisbee players in the field.
3.30 Ground rules may be changed during the game only at the start of an inning, with the agreement of both captains, who will make a clear announcement to both teams.
8.00 - The Pitcher
8.07 The pitcher must be a player in the batting order.
10.00 - The Official Scorer
10.01 Before the game, the Captains will exchange written lineup cards containing their batting order. These will be posted on the league’s website as the official attendance records of the league. [This rule is deleted.]
*Apparently a muslim cleric has decreed that all these earthquakes and volcanos and tornados and tsunamis we've been having lately are being caused by women dressing immodestly. Of course a group was immediately created on Facebook for women who want to synchronize their cleavage and see if they can cause the earth to tremble. It's a scary world we live in.
I don't know, I just have a funny feeling that this could be the year we win every game.
Semper arribare!
